Currently India has a market of over Rs. 30,000 crore for medical technology products. With increasing awareness in healthcare and growing healthcare market, the domestic med-tech market is growing at a healthy rate. However, med-tech industry, R&D and overall ecosystem in the country are still at a nascent stage. As a result, except for few categories like consumables and low-end equipment, majority of med-tech products are imported. This is both a serious concern and an attractive business opportunity. This workshop is aimed at understanding the med-tech landscape in the country from entrepreneurship perspective. The talks and deliberations will dwell on the following questions with the goal of developing an understanding of the entrepreneurial opportunities and directions in this field.

  • 1. How does the med-tech market work? What is the business pathway?
  • 2. What are the unit economics of R&D, manufacturing, marketing, sales and service (from med-tech industry perspective) and cost of ownership, revenues and maintenance (from customer perspective)?
  • 3. What are the barriers, gaps and bottlenecks for existing industry?
  • 4. What are the examples of needs and opportunities in different product categories and market segments?
  • 5. What are the areas ripe for entrepreneurship?
  • 6. What are the barriers, gaps and bottlenecks for startups?

The workshop will consist of talks by experts from established industry, R&D institution, and startups, followed by brain storming and discussions to achieve the objectives of the workshop.
